Technology companies in the Czech Republic will get even stronger
The planned huge investment of the American chip manufacturer Onsemi will help attract other investors from technology sectors to the Czech Republic. The country is already a preferred destination for European and American companies to set up their R&D, innovation and digitalisation centres.
This is mainly due to the security and stability of the country and its quality of life, which can attract talented workers from all over the world, according to a recent ABSL survey. According to ABSL, Onsemi’s decision is evidence of the growing confidence of international investors in the Czech Republic. It expects a dozen new players to enter the market this year alone, further boosting the transformation of the Czech economy and bringing a number of skilled jobs to the country.
“In the last two years, we have seen a significant increase in the number of new investments in technology and digital business services in the Czech Republic. It is clear that the Czech Republic has built a strong reputation as a safe, stable and resilient country that can attract new global investors. Recent examples include Kenvue, Sandoz and Asahi, which have opened innovation and digital centres here. We believe that onsemi investments will make the Czech Republic even more attractive,”
says Jonathan Appleton, Director of ABSL.
The investment by Onsemi can provide the country with the ability to produce critical and energy-efficient chips, which are very important, among other things, for the development of artificial intelligence. The latter plays an absolutely crucial role in innovation efforts in the sector. And the numbers prove it – 22% of centres are already using AI and 78% are testing or piloting it. At the same time, centres that are using AI technology more broadly are growing at twice the industry average.
“We believe that onsemi’s investments will support the Czech Republic’s transformation into a country of skilled labour with high added value. Our industry creates 20,000 new skilled jobs per year and we now expect a significant acceleration. We are delighted that Czechinvest and the Czech government are supporting us with a clear strategy to attract international talent from around the world to fill these great new roles, for example by now allowing free access to the labour market for citizens of 9 countries, namely the USA, Australia, Japan, Israel, Canada, New Zealand, South Korea, Singapore and the UK,”
adds Jonathan Appleton.
